Do I Need A Landscaper?

Written By: Hilary on April 6, 2009 3 Comments

landscaperMost people are big fans of DIY projects—even when it comes to landscaping. It’s a way to unleash your artistic creativity and give your home and garden your own personal touch. It’s okay to take on the challenge yourself if you’re not looking for a dramatic change in your design. If you have a small backyard and you don’t mind getting down and dirty, then it’s alright to do it yourself. Even if you don’t have an extensive or exhaustive knowledge of herbs, plant or flower designs, it can be quite a fun project for you and you can learn as you go along. Landscape designers could cost you a considerable amount, so doing it yourself might save you some money.

However, if you’re not sure about what you’re doing, you might find yourself changing your mind after each attempt at a design. This could lead to more money being spent and more time wasted.

When is it wise to hire a professional landscaper?

  1. If you have a large property. This will require more planning in order to maximize the space. This could be overwhelming for an inexperienced individual. If you think that hiring a landscape artist is expensive, try considering that you might actually end up spending more money by trying out different things on your own.
  2. If you are aiming for a specific design—say a Japanese or English garden, or you might want a Koi pond built, then you might want to seek an expert on the subject. Projects like that, with a specific theme, require years of experience and an eye for detail.
  3. If you’re not sure what you can do to your property and would like some guidance and options. You will want to identify how you want your garden to be. Is it a garden meant to grow and display flowers or a combination of flowers, vegetables and herbs? Do you plan on hosting parties or brunches in your garden? Or do you want a garden where you can relax after a long day of work?

Search for ides online so you can assess your situation better. Ultimately, your goal is to be happy and satisfied with the end result that makes you more confident and proud of your home and garden.
