How to Find the Perfect Hair Stylist

hair stylistFinding the perfect hair stylist may seem impossible, but you need them to find the right style for you. It all starts with a good hair stylist—one who can work well with what you’ve got. But how do you find the right stylist?

It starts with word of mouth. Try asking your friends or even perfect strangers whose hair looks fashionable and stylish where they go for a haircut. Chances are they are more than happy to recommend their stylist and the salon they frequent. If walking up to random strangers isn’t your cup of tea, and if, by some ill twist of fate you don’t actually have any particular friend whose coif you admire, then there’s always the Internet.

There are lots of websites that can direct you to a salon nearest you or in your area and there’s a good chance they might even have a link to their web address as well. If you are lucky enough to find the salon’s homepage, check out their gallery and stylist archives so you can rate for yourself which look you’re going for.

And then there’s the more practical way, which is a walk-in. Go to a salon and request a consultation with one of their stylists (you can even try and meet the other stylists who work there so you can gauge their personality—a hairstylist’s personality is often reflected in their work and personal appearance). If you find one you happen to connect to and whose personal style you like, then he/she might be the right one for you. Seek advice on the best cut to frame your face and complement the texture of your hair—not forgetting to mention the kind of lifestyle you have. It’s important that you tell them what your lifestyle is like because some haircuts require more time and maintenance.

Don’t be swayed by the price of the service. Sometimes expensive isn’t always better. If a stylist is creative enough and sincere about working with a happy customer, it doesn’t always have to cost you an arm and a leg. Be realistic about your goal. Don’t walk in with expectations of looking like your favorite Hollywood celebrity after your snip session. Your hair stylist should be able to enhance the beauty that you already have to begin with.
