What You Need To Know About DIY Bathroom Remodeling

2217805608_fd66955484_mThey say that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they keep their bathroom. Have you ever been invited to a house party or a dinner at someone’s house and found yourself checking to see what their bathroom is like? One would not be inclined to call it an obsessive compulsive disorder, but rather entitling oneself to a peek at another’s hygiene habits. After all, the way you take care of yourself and go about your grooming and hygiene tells a lot about how you pretty much regard everything else around you.

There is much to a bathroom that sets the character of the entire house and home—also either supporting or tainting the personality and character of the persons living in that house. Yes, it may sound like much, but you must admit that it has crossed your mind one time or another.

Having a nice and presentable bathroom is a common desire for most homeowners. One would want to have a bathroom that is worth one’s pride and joy and constant offer for use to guests. We may have our own ideas on the design: some go for an island theme, with bamboo textures on the walls or island décor; art deco has also found its way showers and bathrooms giving it an avant garde feel.  Some bathrooms have themes like that of a Victorian playhouse where powder rooms had posh upholstered chairs with gilded armrests. There are more traditional bathers who would opt for Clawfoot tubs that are freestanding and offer a certain kind of appeal to your showering ritual.

Bathroom remodeling is not just for the wealthy (although more money could buy you a bigger palette of choice furnishings and accents). You can find ways to remodel your bathroom that will not hurt your savings but still give you a room that is inviting, relaxing and refreshing. Perhaps it’s time for a new look, time to change things up and prepare for a new season. Below are some helpful tips to guide you in remodeling your own bathroom.

Examine and Measure

Take a good look at your bathroom and figure out the main things you want changed or modified. Measure the area of the space you are working on so that you know just how much you’ve got in terms of spatial allowance—should you wish to bring in new furnishing like a closet, you’ll at least know how to maximize the total floor area of your bathroom. This also helps you buy new furnishing that you might wish to add without having to guess how much room you’ve got left. Take down your measurements because those will come in handy as you go along this project of yours.

Draw It Out

Now that you have the measurements down, get your vision on paper. Draw out the rest of the bathroom, specifying where you want the fixtures and furnishings put.  This is such a big help in fleshing out your vision and ideas because it gives you a visual edge. Sometimes this may even prompt you to change your mind about certain designs and opt for another style that you realize is better suited to you. Think of it as a rough draft or layout that gives you an overview of the whole project.

Choose a Design or Theme

As the subtitle suggests, this is where you get to tap into your personal taste and preference. Pick out a design or theme for your whole bathroom. You can do what you like and go crazy, but it would be wise to go with a theme that is still in harmony with the rest of your home design.  Be careful that you don’t pick out designs that you might grow bored with eventually. Timeless pieces are great and even better if they’re flexible enough to go with a different theme should you wish to remodel again later down the line. If you’re working with a small space, it’s best to avoid dark hues as it makes it a lot smaller and cramped. Lighter shades and hues will open up the room and give it a more spacious feel.

Furniture and Fixture

With your measurements and lay out in hand, theme envisioned and locked in, you are now ready to go and procure the furniture and fixtures you want in your bathroom. You will find that having measured the space earlier will save you a lot of trouble (and sometimes even money) when shopping for the specifics. Some people have made the mistake of not measuring their bathroom and ended up buying furniture that was either too big or too small for the room.

So there you have it. Be creative but we wise. Take the above mentioned items into consideration and you can be sure that your bathroom remodeling endeavor won’t go down the drain (pun intended).

One of the least expensive, yet immediately saves you money, home improvements is a bathroom bidet sprayer. The ultimate bathroom retreat is not complete without a bidet or better yet….the hand bathroom bidet sprayer. The hand sprayer gives you superior control and water volume and if the bathroom was not designed to allow for a bidet(the majority of them) it offers the convenience of installation on the existing toilet AND you don’t have to get up and move every time! You will pay for it many times over in toilet paper savings which makes this a very green thing to do. Available at http://www.bathroomsprayers.com
